Activity 2: And I have listened to the song titled Who Says and A Million Dreams with the lyrics. Actually, I have heard it many times, but I feel amazed every time I listen to it. So, let me continue the next activity, which is to answer the questions on page 12 in the module. Here is mine...
Questions and Answers on Page 12
1. Do you have a dream? What would you do to reach your dream?
Of course, I have a lot. But it is a secret. What I would do to reach my dream is, in general, and please I hope Allah helps me, straighten my intentions and orientation, plan well, act optimally, and evaluate godly.
2. Read the lyrics of the song carefully. Identify the parts of the song.
- The song title is A Million Dreams
- The verse part is from "I close my eyes and I can see" to "A million dreams for the world we're gonna make"
- The chorus/refrain is from "Every night I lying bed, the brightest colors fill my head, a million dreams are keeping me awake" to "A million dreams for the world we're gonna make"
- The bridge is from "A million dreams for the world we're gonna make" to "There's a house we can build" and to "However big, however small let me be part of it all"
3. A million dreams are keeping me awake. What does the sentence mean?
This sentence means that a million dreams make he can't sleep because he is thinking of that, so he keeps awake.
4. Analyze the meaning of the song. Is it denotation or connotation?
There are many denotation lyrics, with imaginative sentences, etc, but also give few connotation sentences.
5. What message can you get from the song?
The message I can get from the song is that's okay if people or external things that we can't control say whatever about us, but we have our own way, we have our own opinion about ourselves, so just focus on our dreams and what we are potential and what makes us happy and life.
---PART 2---
I've read the module from page 14 to page 15 whose summary is as follows:
- Songs have a certain social function, namely to entertain, give motivation, teach moral messages, and appreciate works of art.
- Songs have certain linguistic elements, namely using figurative language, rhyme, denotation, and connotation.
And I have listened well to the song "Don't Give Up" by Bruno Mars, I fall in love with the simple lyric, and then this is my answer to the page 16 question:
1. Do not ever quit, try and try and you can do it, do not give up. What does the sentence mean?
The sentence means that if we never quit on something, and always try and try again, we can do it. So just do not give up until we did it.
2. You are going to get there just keep on grooving. The word grooving is closest in meaning to...
I think it's close in meaning to tracing, getting on, habiting, or routing.
3. Which phrases are repeated a lot in the song?
Certainly the phrase "do not give up"
4. What message can you get from the song?
The message I get from this song is that the songwriter wants us not to give up, whatever hurts us and makes us almost quit, just try and keep trying, this song believes and affirms us that one day we can do it.
5. How do you feel after reading the lyrics of the song?
Alhamdulillah, I feel energized, motivated, and driven to persevere in life's new trials and pride myself on not giving up.
---PART 3---
One of my favorite song lyrics about DREAMS or NEVER GIVE UP is "Live Like You're Dying" by Lenka Kripac. Here are the lyrics and the parts:
"Live Like You're Dying"(Verse 1)
under the covers, you'll be
under the table and you'll realize.
That all of your days are numbered;
all of them one to one hundred.
All of them millions.
All of them trillions.
So what are you gonna do with them all?
You can not trade them in for more...
No no
(Chorus)
Take every moment; you know that you own them.
It's all you can do, use what's been given to you.
(Verse 2)
Give me a reason to
fight the feeling
that there's nothing here for me.
Cause none of its easy,
I know it wasn't meant to be.
I know it's all up to me.
It's all up to me.
So what am I gonna do with my time?
Oooh
(Chorus)
I'll take every moment, I know that I own them.
It's all up to you to do whatever you choose.
Live like you're dying and never stop trying.
It's all you can do, use what's been given to you.
(Bridge)
All of the moments you didn't notice;
Gone in the blink of an eye.
And all of the feelings you couldn't feel
No matter how you try.
Oh oh
(Chorus)
Take every moment; you know that you own them.
It's all up to you,
to do whatever you choose.
Live like you're dying and never stop trying.
It's all you can do, use what's been given to you.
Live like you're dying and never stop trying.
It's all up to you, use what's been given to you.
The meaning of the song for me is: That indeed in life there are times when I am feeling down and will realize the things that are really important all this time but I neglect, and it is at that time of dying that I can find out what I have to do considering the rest of my trust from Allah, and take every moment because I have control of it and it's all up to me. The point is to live like I am dying. I love this song so much!
